DJ Cipha Sounds - DJ Cipha Sounds Joins MTV as TRL VJ

MTV seeks to add edge and credability in the hip hop realm by adding DJ Cipha Sounds as the new TRL VJ (video jockey). DJ Cipha Sounds certainly gives TRL a much different feel than, say, Carson Daly. DJ Cipha will join current VJs:

DJ Cipha Sounds was a DJ on Shade 45 Sirius satellite radio along with Angela Yee and DJ Wonder. Previously, Cipha became famous for his work on New York radio station Hot 97.

News on Cipha Sounds - 4/5/2006 - AP teaser: Cipha Sounds is spinning from DJ to VJ. The 25-year-old New York DJ will become MTV's newest video jock, starting Monday. The move will be announced Wednesday on the music network's "TRL."

Sounds has been scratching hip-hop records for about nine years, most notably as a member of Funkmaster Flex's crew. He has hosted a radio program on New York's Hot 97, as well as a show for Sirius Satellite Radio.

Those recent experiences, he says, helped him transition from a DJ enveloped in headphones who focused only on playing records to a more outgoing entertainer.
