Distribution Rights Defined :: Short & Sweet Definitions
This is a simple and to-the-point guide to define the terms used for distribution rights for digital media. Please note it's very important to read the license agreement given within each product you're interested in selling or giving away for specific licensing requirements.
Giveaway Rights
Giveaway Rights means you are permitted to give the product away, but you don't necessarily have the right to sell the product. In other words, you aren't exchanging the product for currency.
Resell Rights
Resell Rights means you are permitted to resell the product and keep 100% of the profits. Some license agreements may have a suggested minimum selling price, or other terms may apply. Please read the license agreement. You cannot sell the license to resell rights products.
Master Resell Rights
Master Resell Rights means you can give the product away for free, sell it for whatever amount you want, or bundle it with other products to create your own custom package. You can pass the resell rights on to your customers as well. Products with master resell rights usually cost more, but give you, the owner, more options in distributing the product. Many products that include master resell rights also include professional, custom, ready-made websites and sales pages to help you resell the product. Please read the license agreement for details.
Private Label Rights
Private Label Rights (PLR for short) are the top rights available and the most expensive. Many of these products sell for hundreds of dollars each! The owner of PLR has total control of the product. PLR includes the source files, which enable you to easily edit the package and claim it as your own creation. PLR licenses give you the right to edit the content, images and sales pages and claim it as your own, completely new product. You have the right to offer the product with resell, master resell, or private label rights. As you can see, products with private label rights are the top of the line for resellers.
PLEASE NOTE: The rights for any given product are generally found within a text file (.txt), Word Document (.doc) or on the first page/view of the product. If you have any questions regarding the distribution rights of a product you've purchased, contact the person/company you purchased the item from and ask. You can also contact the copyright holder of the title. This information is generally found within the product itself.
