Need some help authenticating that beautiful DIOR Gaucho you are SO in LOVE with?

Research your seller -

• IS this a private listing?
• Does seller have sufficient feedback?
• Look into "other items for sale". How many GAUCHO bags does the seller have listed?
• Research "completed items" for this seller. Search How many bags has this seller sold in the past? Make sure you checked "completed listings" check box
• IF seller does not accept Credit Cards you virtually gambling on your purchase to be authentic and seller to be honest. YOU WILL NOT be able to claim loses.
• If there is only one tiny picture of the bag EMAIL the seller and ask for close-up and larger pictures of the bag's details

THE REAL DIOR GAUCHO

• WILL have fine interlocking trim. The opposite sides are matched precisely and the corners are cut at 90 degree angle. The must be evenly spaced. the trim is in Aged leather, and there are no gaps, opposite parts identical

• The DIOR logo is deep-pressed into the metal of the buckle and blackened. Pay attention to the way the lettering is done
• Metal hardware has a tarnished finish. Metal buckle on the medium Gaucho covers 2 rivets

• Rivets on the both sides - the face and reverse are identical and are modestly but perfectly bumped and rounded (the raise of a rivet is very slight), with no indentation marks. indentation marks are signs of a hand-inflicted damage when using a hand tools to press rivets together. These should look identically perfect. And blackened/tarnished, don't forget to look for these
  

• R.Cochet charm: FACE shown facial features. jaw line, nose, ears, even teeth in a grin. all raised and intended as a real-person face. You should be able to trace what used to be a hairline, however vague.

• Magnetic snap-closure on the flap, large back pocket and cell-pocket should not display any etching/writing etc. Neither is their opposite mates
• Lining - Look closely. The r in Dior should be precisely under i The round point or the r under the dot

• On the lining Dior lettering letter "D" is always ascending, climbing from bottom-left to right-top, the only exclusion is the inner pocket where the lining is a single piece of material, no hem lines. The pocket unzipped should fall into the climbing D pattern
• Inside tag has rounded bottom corners and square top corners. CHRISTIAN DIOR Paris MADE IN ITALY is centered on the tag and the letters are deep-pressed in to the leather.
• Notice how the Christian Dior PARIS is separated  from MADE IN ITALY, almost double the space. Look on the item you were planning to bid on, almost all fake bags have the lines grouped together! Also pay attention to the font, it should not painted on in silver lettering, nor are the letters bulky or clumsy-looking. Dior likes precision

• Contrast stitching... is it there? it is everywhere, including the INSIDE TAG?

FINALLY, what comes with the Gaucho:

•  Sleeper/dust cover bag is simply DIOR
• Authenticity Card reads CHRISTIAN DIOR in front. NO peeling letters, back should be in 3 languages - French, English and Chinese and "watermarked" with fine CHRISTIAN DIOR logo continuous on each line
• Maintenance Guide - first half is in FRENCH, second - in English. READ the second half if its possible. There should be NO misspelled words!
• Every gaucho is sold with a Maintenance guide, even counterfeits. If the seller states in the description that there is no Maintenance Guide, most likely that that seller read the guide and discarded it because of the spelling errors. The guide is very important as it is a definite counterfeit give-away.
• If the auction's listing is missing pictures of any of above mentioned items EMAIL the seller and ask for a closeup picture.
• The leather is distressed, very tough even rough but 'silky smooth' to the touch.
• NO GRAINY leather bags were ever produced. If it has a 'bronze' spiced leather, check on the color selection.

• One last thing.  Fakes are selling at astronomical prices. Many a trusted sellers after reviewing this guide 'fixed' their pictures and item listings. If you care enough about YOUR money, do the completed items by seller search (advanced find, see link above), and once you receive your bag, open and read this guide again!
