This guide is all about the "BOHO" style, which will possibly fade by the time I finish writing this, but it's a chance I'm willing to take. If anything, it will be back in 10 or so years, so this may still prove to be useful. It's something like Gypsy-meets-Hippie, with a dash of Ethnic and Tribal.
The Bohemian Chic Look was started by superstars like Sienna Miller, but I remember seeing it flashed on the Disney Cartoon "Hunchback of Notre Dame." Basically, the look is achieved by piling on lots of interesting layers, textures, colors, lengths, volumes and patterns. (Look for lighter weight materials and fabrics) And, this look benefits from lots of colorful & flashy accessories, so bust out all those gaudy bracelets, dangling earrings, necklaces and belts you thought you'd never wear and go for great style. Second-hand stores have oodles of that stuff, usually pretty cheap too. You'll actually be surprised at how comfortable you are while being dressed for anything--but not too dressy. You'll feel pretty and trendy. You're ready for a photo shoot yourself!
Coming up for fall use earthy tones like browns, khakis and neutral greens. For spring, use other dusty pale colors like antique rose, ivory, sage and muted lilac. You want the skirt to drop below the knee, and the tops, such as tunics, to flow past the waistline and go down to the hips. (It's actually pretty flattering) Look for skirts with volume and movement such as tiered prairie skirts, or long broomstick skirts. A tunic top looks great with a great pair of jeans. (Watch the shoes though. The wrong pair could throw the whole thing off--remember its BOHO, not HOBO:-)
For warmer weather, any kind of leather looking sandal with embellishments. (Beads, metallic studs, or braided leather work great) For the colder weather or going out at night a comfortable pair of boots that are pretty well used with a vintage feel are perfect!
If you're like me, I'm in constant search for the latest trends, taboos and of course...SALES! One thing about clothing trends is that these are fairly easy to follow and they really make you feel good in your own skin. As women, we are too often too critical of ourselves. Give yourself a break! Life gets crazy busy and it's easy to put yourself last. You work too hard to feel anything but "fabulous woman"--even in jeans and sneakers!
HINT: Don't be afraid to make you're own style. You may be surprised at how many will follow your lead. It will give you a little chuckly)
