I get a lot of questions from players who have just started playing. I
welcome them all. Sometimes there is some confusion about darts and
their parts and
customers can not articulate what they are looking for.
So here are some basics to help everyone understand some dart anatomy terms as well as some other terms you may hear while throwing darts.
The dart is made up of 4 basic parts: tip, barrel, shaft, and flights. Keep in mind when you purchase a set of darts you are buying them because of the barrels. The tips, flights and shafts can be replaced very easily and cost effectively. Below are some links to better describe each part.

Other alternative parts are o-rings and flight protectors. O-rings allow you to tighten the shafts and some tips by hand and keeping the parts tight. Flight protectors protect the flights from getting beat up and keep the flights straighter longer.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT SOFT AND STEEL TIP DARTS
Who am I that I should write about darts? I have been throwing darts for about 22 years. In the Navy and locally in darts leagues, and of course for fun. Although I am by no means a pro I have learned a few things. Hopefully can pass them on so that dart companions can have some fun too. Speaking of the Navy-I also works on jets and studied with Embry Riddle Aeronautical University. So that I am able to pass down to you some laws of physics as they relate to darts.
