It is that reason this glossary of terms for curio cabinets was created. Whether you are looking for something to show off your treasured collectibles, or looking for a piece of accent furniture that will dress up your home decor, we are determined to make it as easy as possible to find the perfect curio for you. We hope that this glossary will help you be confident in whatever decision you decide to make.

 

Adjustable Shelves: Maneuverable shelves that allow for better fitting inside the curio. This makes it easy to put collectibles of all shapes and sizes in the curio comfortably.

Beveled Glass: This is when the glass is angled and not just flat, which makes for a much more unique look.

Bunching Curio Cabinets: These are a type of curio cabinet that can be used seperately or can be combined together for added display and storage capability.

Cabriole Legs: A leg shape of Queen Anne and Chippendale designs that bends outward on top, and tapers as it goes downward into an ornamental foot.

Color Matching Splines: Cushion glass around the edges, stabilizing the glass to prevent rattling or possible breakage. This is usually found on Pulaski Curios.

Distressed: An aged wood finish created by scratches, dents and wear.

Dowel: A type of joint where round wooden pegs are inserted into into wood parts for added strength.

Fitted Screwed-In Backs: This diminishes the chunkiness of nails and protrusions along the back of the curio cabinet, but smoothing it out with its fitted design and screwed in durability.

Front and Side Locking Doors: Protecting your treasured collectibles with a key and lock on all sides of the curio.

Glass Mirrored Back: Positioned against the back wall of the curio cabinet, this reflects the collectibles allowing the viewers to get the full view of the item.

Halogen Lighting: These energy efficient lights illuminate the collectibles that are kept in the curio cabinet. These lights are both brighter and more natural in look allowing for more appeal.

Leveler: These can help level the curio cabinet to even it out. There is one under each corner of the cabinet and are adjustable.

Lock Pull: A decorative addition that makes opening and closing the door easier

MDF: Medium density fiber board - a man-made material used as a durable alternative to wood.

One-Way Sliding Door: Doors either slide to the left or the right, only one of the two ways.

Pad-Lock Shelf Clips: These lock shelves in place for added stability and are padded so they do not do any damage to the shelf at the same time.

Plate Grooves: These are built in grooves that are designed for the vertical display of plates or china within the cabinet.

Triple Reinforced Joints: This extra durable design provides unequaled stability and longevity, usually found on Pulaski Curios

Two-Way Sliding Door: The doors slide both ways making the inside of the cabinet more accessible.

Veneer: Thin leaf of wood applied onto panel or frame of solid wood. It displays richly grained effects inexpensively. Common veneers are rosewood, maple and mahogany.
