This guide will give step by step directions for creating a wonderful alternative to the standard scrapbook. These are fairly simple to make and can make a wonderful gift.
First a list of supplies you will need:
- An unfinished wooden box
- A Small Can of wood stain
- A Decoupage Medium such as Mod Podge
- Several Paint Brushes
- Photos or paper momentos of your choice
- Newspaper
- Sandpaper
You can, of course, add other items if you choose.
First let's start with the wooden box.
You will need to rough up the surface a bit to accept the wood stain better. Just a light sanding should do!
Then apply the wood stain in even coats. I like to use foam paint brushes for this step. But, the choice is yours.
Allow the stain to completely dry. Overnight would be the ideal time for this.
After the box is dry, you need to glue your photos and momentos onto the box. I used pictures of myself and my husband as I made it for an anniversary gift. You do not need to allow the glue to dry all the way before this next step.
Take your decoupage medium and either pour it over the box (I personally do not like this method) or brush it on generously over the entire box.
When this dries, your photos and other items will be sealed and a varnished look will be achieved. You now have a Memory Treasure Chest! Fill it up or give as it is and let the recipient fill it with their treasured items!
