We recommend any eBay buyer or seller to create an "About Me" page.
One of the greatest problems on eBay is knowing who you can trust. To help create more confidence in your buyers or sellers, a page with information about you or your company must help. In turn this should help you to get better prices for the items you are selling, as more buyers will feel confident about buying from you. It can also help sellers who perhaps wonder about who is bidding on their items, and wondering whether they will get paid or not.
Feedback is OK, But State Your Own Case
Sure enough, other eBay members can read your feedback, provided you have any yet, but what is wrong with giving yourself some "feedback" to start with. If other members can see that you are happy to publish your own contact information on your "About Me" page, it should help them to deal with you with more confidence.
Look At Other Members "About Me" Pages
If you are thinking about bidding on an item, then why not have a look to see if the seller has created an "About Me" page, and whether it is helpful and informative. If so, then you can have more confidence that you are dealing with a straightforward person. If the "About Me" page is missing, or fails to give you any real information about the other person, then exercise caution and discretion when dealing with them.
An eBay Problem
eBay have lots of ambiguous rules about what you can and can't include in item listings and "About Me" pages. We believe this encouragement of anonymity to be rather destructive, and helps crooks and scammers to continue to trade on eBay easily. It would be better for eBay to encourage everybody to create and "About Me" page, and to include a reasonable amount of personal detail, including contact information, The reason eBay have this policy is to discourage members from dealing directly with each other without eBay getting a cut. If eBay kept its fees at a reasonable level, it would not need to be so paranoid about fee avoidance.
