Subject  Counterfeit Motorola Accessory Products

Motorola is experiencing a substantial influx of counterfeit Bluetooth headsets, chargers and battery products in all regions and markets.  The primary products counterfeited are Motorola’s leading headset models H500, H700, HS850 and HS820.

The counterfeit products have overall poor quality with respect to performance as well as component construction.  They also have potential safety issues that may introduce injury to consumers and may damage Motorola and our customers’ reputation.  The counterfeit products are significantly impacting our sales and are resulting in high returns rates and customer dissatisfaction.

Trafficking (making, possessing, selling, transporting, importing, and exporting) counterfeit goods and their labels and packaging is a criminal offense in the United States and most other countries.  In the United States a conviction for counterfeiting carries very substantial fines and jail time.  In addition to criminal prosecution, civil lawsuits and damages may be pursued against counterfeits.  In all cases the law provides for the seizure and destruction of counterfeit goods whether or not criminal convictions are obtained or civil damages are awarded.

Motorola is dramatically increasing its efforts to eliminate counterfeiting.  We have taken the following first steps to shut down this practice:

Closed many eBay auctions on counterfeit Bluetooth Headsets.
Seized $225,000 worth of H500 and HS850 counterfeit at JFK airport.
Rejected H700 counterfeit warranty repairs in Puerto Rico
Raided warehouses in Shenzhen and destroyed all Motorola counterfeits found.
Destroyed thousands and thousands of Bluetooth Headsets, Chargers, VPA and batteries found at Customs operations across the world.
Motorola would like to partner with its customers in identifying the sale and distribution of counterfeit products.  This will increase the effectiveness of our enforcement action while increasing consumer satisfaction.  Motorola requests that you report known or suspected counterfeits to our hotline email address, specifically designed for this issue,   Samples of counterfeit products should be given to your local Motorola sales people with the attached check list.
