Corum, A. lange & Sohne, Carl F. Bucherer, Patekk Philippe have now joined the ranks or Rolex, Breitling and Tag Heuer by the replica producers around the world.

For the last 30 years we have all seen the Fake/Replica Rolex's for sale. Now we are seeing the likes of A.Lange & Sohne watches arrive from China, Japan and even Switzerland turn up.

The German made A.Lande & Sohne : Lange 31 is the watch with the 31-day power reserve. It retails for $180,000 new. The watch company was started by Adolf Lange ( I guess Adolf was a popular name in that country in those days) in 1845. It is known as one of the worlds best watches. The average watch price for an A Lange & Sohne watch is $30,000. The fakes have been selling sadly here on ebay, over on Amazon and a variety of websites.

How to spot a fake / Replica. As its such a rare watch, you dont see enough to spot a fake just by holding them. The fakes can be purchased from $200-$8,000. The high quality fakes that sell for $8,000 are predominantly real gold and exceptional quality. However for the real thing you would pay $30,000 Plus.

In the case of Corum, A. Lange & Sohne, Carl F. Bucherer, Patekk Philippe, and Panerai watches, you can ONLY be certain if you buy from an authorized dealer. You would not spend $30,000 + on a small 1 bed condo without getting having a title search would you? So why spend this on a watch. If a deal looks too good to be true it is..Period. The replica producers have gone to a huge expense to copy watches, they include real solid gold cases, braclets and the watches allow have replica mechanical movements. The quality of the movements is good on the surface but thats all. The material has been alloy, Zinc and lower grade stainless steel, and gold plate. Once the plating wears, keeping perfect time becomes impossible.

I have many who ask me to look over an item for sale on ebay to see if its genuine, with 90% of Rolex and Breitling fakes, this can be done. But with Corum, A. Lange & Sohne, Carl F. Bucherer, Patek Philippe watches thats impossible for the high grade replica's. yes the $200 fakes can be spotted, but time and time (no pun intended) I see these fakes fetching thousands of dollars on ebay.

Question: The seller seems to have great feedback and has said its authentic, can I trust it?

Answer: No, The seller, even if he has feedback like mine, there is a probable chance he cant spot an authentic watch. OK, maybe Patek Phillipe, but thats it. Buyer beware. Forget the box and the papers, these cost just a few bucks to produce.
