In the increasingly competitive corporate world, it is important to nurture business relationships.  One great way to do this is to send a token of appreciation or gift to business contacts.  The ideal business gift will convey your thoughtfulness as well as your good taste.  Since gourmet food baskets are  popular business gifts, below are some guidelines to ensure that your gift basket is well received.

  • Check with the recipient's company concerning its gift policy before sending a business gift.  Some companies don't allow employees to accept gifts or may place a limit on the gift amount.
  • Promotions, raises or major accomplishments in the business world are causes for celebration.  They also provide you the perfect opportunity to send your congratulations with a handsome gift basket.
  • Food items are among the most popular holiday business gifts.  If you choose to send a gift basket of gourmet treats, have it delivered earlier so it's not lost in the crowd.
  • Try to select a gift basket that the recipient will enjoy, but also one that enhances the image of your company or organization.
  • The gift basket you send should reflect the value you place on the business relationship.  Highly respected clients should receive more attention.
  • Employees are also your business partners.  Nurture your relationship with them by sending a gift basket for performance recognition or motivation.
  • Celebrate holidays and boost morale by giving a gourmet gift basket for the entire office to share at department luncheons.
  • Don't send anything that could embarrass the recipient or be misconstrued.
  • While wine is a popular gift basket item, alcohol may not be considered acceptable for business gift-giving, so use your judgment.
  • To avoid potential offense, keep holiday gifts as culturally and religiously neutral as possible.
  • Send a personal note with your gift basket letting your client, vendor or employee know how much you appreciate them.
