Get Logitech MX Revolution Laser with a recharging dock.  Without dock, when the batteries run down, you have to quit what you are doing and install new or recharged batteries.  This happens at the most inopportune times. Like during a bidding war on eBay
With the recharging dock, when you quit using your computer, just place the mouse in the dock and it will be ready for use the next time.

The Logitech MX1000 is out of production, but still available NIB on eBay for about $50.00 incl. S/H.
It uses laser technology, not optical. It has programmable features, is PC or Mac compatible and has a recharging dock. Pretty sweet.
