The ebay blog area is almost like a testing area for material that can used as Guide material. I made that realization tonight as I read the replies to this blog that I wrote. It gives some basic tips on effective blogging on ebay. Enjoy.
Cool ebay Blogging Tips and Observations
Here are some tips and observations for blogging on ebay that I've accumulated over the past couple of weeks. I'm a veteran blogger, in that I've been blogging since before the term "blog" was coined. My first attempt at a blog was an online journal on the free Fortune City servers. Remember them? That led to going over to Blog-City, and later MySpace. I'm really enjoying the ebay blogging experience though, and can't wait to build up my readership.
* Write about whatever you want. Don't hold back. Some people think that because we're on ebay we have to blog about ebay-related stuff. Well, I've got news for you. With a little mental effort, anything can be linked to ebay. It's like that six degrees of separation to Kevin Bacon game that people have been playing for several years now.
* Don't even try to break the rules. Face it. With all of the people who randomly cruise through this section of the site, some law-abiding citizen will catch you when you list your own website that sells whatever. And they will turn you in. Or some piece of ebay software will spider something you're doing wrong, and buzz, you're busted. With over 200 million users, this is not the place to be breaking rules. I am all for looking for loopholes or making change within the system, mind you, but don't break the rules. It's ebay's sandbox, and they can bury you in sand.
* Blog early, blog often. No matter what you have to say, or not say, get a message out on a regular basis. This gets more people looking at your entries more often, which could lead to more potential visitors to your ebay business. And people like regularity in their media. Back when there were only three television networks, and maybe five channels on the TV, a Presidential address or some other interruption could make a huge part of the population mighty cranky. Don't make your readers look for you. If you're going to disappear for awhile, let people know ahead of time.
* Have a point. Today's point is me basically sharing some tips and observations. Have a point to build your articles around. Don't make people ask, "Why am I reading this?"
* Be as brief as possible. Don't ramble. Don't go on and on and on and on and .... Never mind. You get the point, I hope.
* Follow up on the people who bothered to read your blog. Go visit their stores. Write them thank yous for visiting. Take advantage of the communication channels that have opened up for you and make some new ebay friends.
* Prufreed yer stfuf. Sure, most of us are not professional writers or journalists, but if you neglect the rules of grammar and spelling enough, people won't take you as seriously.
Thanks for visiting!
