I have sold decorative concrete products for 7 years. This is the proper way to secure your fountain for the winter in cold climates. Drain the fountain and remove the pump if possible. Clean out the filter area and rinse the pump well. Let it dry for a couple of days making sure the inside of the pump is dry before you store it away. If  it is a large fountain and you cannot take your pump out,  follow the same instructions except wrap the pump in a plastic bag that will not leak and tie it with a large bread or twist tie. Put it back as far as you can in the pump housing. Don't forget to wrap your plug in plastic also.

The fountain must be dry for at least 1 week. This allows the concrete to completely dry with no dampness inside. The top figure should come off and stored away. If  it is small you can wrap it in a blanket and lay in fountain bowl. Old blankets should be layed inside the bowls.The blankets protect your bowl and absorb water and moisture that may get into your fountain from heavy winds and rain.  If you do not have a fountain cover use clear heavy plastic or anything waterproof.  I use an old clear shower curtain for the one I have at home. At the store I use a thin greenhouse plastic. You can buy it at any home improvement store or local hardware. Be careful if you use tarps. Even though tarps say they are waterproof, they all are not. I used them the first year in my business and water did get into my fountains. Tie the plastic securely around the fountain. It should be real tight. If not, wind can grab at the plastic and water may get into your fountain.

Concrete does get stress lines. They look like tiny line cracks along the surface. It is normal. I hope I have helped you enjoy your fountain for years to come. Thank you!
