Hello again! If you're like me, you enjoy the animated television series of the mid 1980's called the THUNDERCATS. Perhaps you liked them as a child...perhaps (due to the magic of re-released DVDs) you are just learning to love them now...either way, you probably would like to collect the action figures from the series.
Now as of today (2006) there are no newly released action figures from the Thundercats line. Aside from fan-produced customs, all you can buy are the ones from the 80s. But how do you know if your figure is complete? What accessories go with which figure??? I am happy to assist you with the following guide:
BAD GUYS (Major Characters):
Mumm-ra the Ever-Living: (Transformed version). Mummra is I believe the tallest of the Thundercats action figures. He is very muscular, and his skin is a grey-blue-green. He is bald, and his eyes appear to be black empty sockets (but they are actually light-up red). He's pretty scary looking, especially as he only wears a very short red and yellow mini-skirt like clothing and furry yellow boots. He has a big red symbol on his chest but make no mistake, this is not a Thundercats symbol. This symbol is a red circle with 2 snakes entwined.
- Comes with a red, barrel shaped, metal tipped capsule that holds a AAA battery. This has a detachable plastic finger-ring. This piece allows Mumm-ra's eyes to light up.
- also comes with a black and grey dagger
- a black and red long curved sword
- and a red helmet that fits onto his bald head.
- early versions of Mumm-ra came with a 1 piece solid PVC figure of Ma-mutt.
Mumm-ra (Mummy Version): this toy was originally only available as a mail-in promotion. He is much shorter than the 'transformed' version of himself. He looks like a mummy, all wrapped in white bandages, and wearing a long, hooded red cloak.
- Comes with a long black staff with a black and red animal skull on top.
Ma-mutt: Mumm-ra's dog. He looks like a really cranky, slightly starved dark grey bulldog. He wears a red spiked collar. The collar has a short black plastic chain hanging from it. He doesn't come with any other accessories.
S-S-Slithe (Mutant): The commander of the Mutant ship that ended up trapped on Third Earth, S-S-Slithe looks a bit like a hunch-backed toad. He is a lizard; green, bumpy-skinned with pointed ears and a tail. Like most of the bad guys, he's not that modest (he wears very few clothes). In this case a talisman, a belt, some armbands and a loincloth.
- comes with a long axe...brown wooden-look handle and silver metal-look blade
Monkian: another of the Mutants, he looks like a large monkey-man. His skin is brown, and his shoulder fur is yellow-white. He wears a very short red loincloth, and some purple and red elbow and knee bands.
- comes with a dark red and silver helmet
- also comes with a silver metal-look mace (silver spiked ball, black chain and a silver handle)
Jackalman: the last of the marooned Mutants, he looks a bit like a werewolf. His fur is red-brown with a yellow belly (appropriate, due to his cowardice). Wears a dark green loincloth and some wristbands.
- comes with a brown club
- also comes with a black and yellow flexible plastic strap that fits across his left shoulder.
Ratar-o: the actual leader of the Mutant fleet, but not a regular character. He looks like a rat-man. His fur is dark brown, he has pointed ears, big teeth, a long wispy moustache and a long brown tail (that sometimes is missing). His armor is dark green and bright orange and he wears a helmet.
- comes with 2 identical sais (like big dagger like forks, martial-arts-style). Usually these are black with a blue eye in the middle, but I have seen rare silver plastic versions as well.

Non-Major Character Bad-Guy Figures:
Astral Moat Monster: a larger character than most, he is rather strange looking. He does not wear any clothing. He reminds me of a big blue furry hamster, but with big red duck feet, ratty looking red wings, lots of big shark-like teeth and big yellow eyes! Does not come with any accessories.
Driller: a very well-modeled toy, the driller is half man, half drill-bit! He is light purple and silver and is easily recognized by the fact that he has no legs, but a long spike (like a drill) that separates into a tripod (to help him to stand up). He comes with no accessories.
Captain Shiner: this character looks a bit like a man with a bull-dog head. He is bald, his bumpy skin is beige and he wears a monocle (a round glass in one eye). His uniform is an olive green, with light blue boots and gloves, and some red and yellow decorations.
- comes with a very large space-hand gun that is silver and red.
Captain Cracker: a robotic space-pirate, this character has green-grey skin with silver accents, a red bandana, a bright yellow raggedy shirt with a green vest, brown pants and a peg-leg.
- comes with a long, curved silver sword.
The Berserkers: They are a band of half-human, half-machine pirates. They are named after their most prominent feature. They also all wear horned Viking-style helmets. None of them come with accessories.
- Captain Hammerhand: definitive proof that all Captains must be evil...this third captain is also a bad-guy. Hammerhand has a disproportionately large right hand that can grasp items and slam down. Hammerhand wears mainly black and bright yellow, with silver accents. He has a grey beard and a very large left foot.
- Cruncher: the toy is not as tall as it should be, but Cruncher is mainly silver and blue (with red and yellow accents and a red beard. His feature is that he can give a power bear-hug.
- Ram-Bam: is mainly black and red, with purple and silver accents. He has very long arms and very short legs and yellow hair and beard. Oh yes, and who can forget the giant tire coming out of his stomach? Pull the cord and he can skoot along the floor on his belly.
- Top Spinner: is mainly purple and silver with black and yellow accents. He has a silver mace in his one hand and a shield in the other. His top part can spin around very fast, spinning the mace in a threatening manner.
Grune the Destroyer: Grune was originally a good Thundercat, fighting alongside Jaga, but Grune turned bad, and had been exiled to live as a trapped spirit. He has gotten free and caused trouble for the Thundercats a few times. He is a tall figure, and looks a bit like a saber-toothed tiger, but with only 1 tooth. His skin is brown and his hair is dark brown. He wears a red and black helmet and his armor is mainly silver, red and black.
- comes with a silver color spiked club
- also comes with one black, spiked 'brass knuckles' that fits on his hand
Mongor: this character only appeared once, but they made a toy of him anyway. He looks like a satyr (half man, half goat). He does not wear clothing, and he is grey skinned with purple fur. He has big brown horns.
- comes with a grey and silver sickle or scythe (the thing the Grim Reaper carries)
Safari Joe: another one-time character, Safari Joe is one of the most human looking characters. He just looks like a bald man, who is on safari! He wears a monocle and has a black moustache. He has a red scarf and beige/khacki clothes with a belt and brown boots. He shows that hunting and poaching makes you a 'bad guy'.
- comes with a large automatic rifle gun that is silver and brown.
Stinger: a very hard figure to find complete, I don't know if he even appeared in any episodes (maybe 1). Stinger looks like a grasshopper man. His skin is grey, but from the chest down he has a green and yellow grasshopper body. He has iridescent wings (that very often get lost) and a bug-like helmet (that also is very often lost). He does not come with any accessories.
Tongue-a-saurus: another hard figure to get, Tongue-a-saurus looks a bit like an alligator that is all head with almost no body. Green skin, (definitely a lizard) with gigantic white fangs, and little hands. Has a big red tongue that can shoot out and grab other characters! Does not come with any accessories.
