Me and My Sexy Cancer
How and when did you learn about your cancer?
August 10, 2007 during a colonoscopy my Doctor found Squamous Cell Carcinoma then a CT scan of my pelvis showed that the cancer had spread to my sacrum and was pushing against my sciatica nerve which caused nerve damage and atrophy of my leg. The 3cm tumor on my sacrum grew into my pelvic bone and has my Drs worried. They are sending me to MD Anderson for a 2nd opinion to make sure they did everything correctly!
What types of treatment(s) have occurred?
30 Radiation Treatments along with 2 Mitomycin pushes... proceeded by 2-96 Hour Fluorouracil Chemo Treatments
In January I had 3CT scans and a PET scan along with a biopsy... All came back NEGATIVE...
I had my port removed the 2nd week of Feb...
I am now going to a physical therapist to help rehabilitate my leg from the nerve damage.
What have been the most important things that have helped you through your survivorship?
God... My HUSBAND... Family... Friends and of course... GREAT and COMPASSIONATE Doctors
What have you learned from your experiences that you would like to share?
Gargle daily with baking soda-salt mixture. Important to keep sores and yeast infection down....
Sitz bathes daily to help dry up radiation burns...
Aquaphor... best skin ointment every...
Green Tea soothing baby wipes... buy the SUPER refill size and just refill the containers... keep them in every bathroom and a zip lock bag in your purse... VERY IMPORTANT!!
Buy double bottles of Imodium Advanced... and take liberally... (you probably will get gas but it's better than getting burned inside and out from diarrhea!)
