Intellivision Collecting
Buying a system:
The first thing you want to ask the seller:
1. "is it working?"
3. "how long did you test it?"
2. "are you the original owner?"
3. "will you refund my money if it don't work?"
4. Controllers working?
5. "are all the buttons on the keypads and all 4 side buttons working?"
6. How clear is the picture?
If you can get a yes on most of these questions then you may have a good system to bid on.
On some intellivisions the longer you test it the more likly you may see overheating and total game failure. This is common for some of the first one's produced with low serial numbers (less than 20000)
Check the photo's of the system close, sometimes a seller will tell you anything just to sell the item.
Look at the controller cords. They are alot like a phone handset cord, they will get stretched out over time and with heavy use. A system with very little use will have a nice tight cord.
Look at the disk. Is the color nice and gold? That will wear off after time
Look at the keypads. are they worn out torn or missing?
Model 2609, super pro system, sears tele games system, intv III, no power supply needed only video cable needed for play
Intellivision II you will need a power supply to play.
Cartridge Collecting
This is the best part! Finding those rare games to add to the collection.
Most Intellivision games Complete have a game box, 2 overlays, cartridge, and instructions
Some games never had overlays originaly made for them
I have bought, sold, and played thousands of intellivision games and very rarly do I find a non working game. I may just be lucky or it could be that it's because most of these games were made in the good old USA!
If you find that you have a non working game don't go crazy a toss it in to the trash. Get a Q-tip and dip it into rubbing alcohol (70% or higher) Hold your cartridge with the contacts facing down (so alcohol will not run into the circut board) Now rub the Q-tip on both sides of the copper contacts. You see the dirt comming off. Then use a dry Q-tip and rub the contacts dry. Repeat till the q-tips are free of dirt.
Now before trying the game again the contacts must be dry and free of the alcohol. The game should now work trouble free!
Good luck
