I remember my mom buying my first Star Wars toys at MERVYN'S when they did sell real toys. The excitement and sentimental value that the toys had in my life I remember now in my sdult life. They filled a hole in my life that has lasted to this day. I cherish those toys and my wife thinks I am crazy for the entire second bedroom being dedicated to toys that played a part in those times of my childhood.

I have written some helpful pointers and advice when buying on Ebay or anywhere else. What to look for? Loose figures are the hardest to acquire in mint shape unless they are still in the package. If you buy them loose and have certain preferences like me I always look in the description for specifics, if none, email the seller. Value of the figures go down if they have loose limbs or heads and have rub marks or even in yellow in color. This wear  is due to lots of play time. You can tell if the action figure is really loose by holding it in between the shoulder areas and wiggle it. You want to have stiff limbs and minimum paint wear, especially around the head and boot area. Keep an eye out for missing fingers and bald spots on the head area. Some people have toys that have been chewed on. Pay close attention. All capes tend to rip where the arms go in. Also a lot of sellers glue heads back on, you won't know it until you recieve it and try to turn the figures head. My mom use to do the same to keep me happy or from me wanting another exact one. A lot of the action figures turn yellow over the years especially all types of stormtroopers. To find one all white is a gem.

If you have a chance to get figures with their weapons and capes or robes, that is a big plus. But there are weapons and capes out there that are reproductions. Good sellers will let you know that the weapons or capes are original or reproduction. If you don't see it listed than you should ask the seller. Don't ask the seller when there is only 5 minutes left in the auction. By the time he replies the auction will be over. I always look ahead in the auctions so if I have any questions at least the seller can answer while the auction still has enough time.

Vehicles also turn yellow if they weren't taken care of. I stay away from any type of yellow vintage star wars figs or vehicles. When buying vehicles, see if the item is complete and if not see what is missing. You can easily find the missing part in another listings. Also, you need to know the difference between vintage and modern day star wars toys. The distinction is obvious. If you are unsure compare two side by side, you will see that Hasbro has manufactured the more recent line of toys, while KENNER is the vintage line. Look for the year on the limbs of the action figure or on the under carriage of the vehicle. If you come across a vehicle that has a broken part that cannot be interchanged with another, stay away. I know some people like to switch parts around if capable. I have done it to make, say for example, an AT-AT. It's actually complete so it's worth more. All original pieces makes for a better investment in your collection. Vintage carded figures will soon be scarce so I would advise to get them while they are available. Keep an eye out for low prices but make sure there is no bubble damage or yellowing of the bubble. A lot of carded figures are sold but mint ones are rare. I like to avoid creases too. If you do find a low deal because of the distinct flaws in condition, keep it contained, maybe even send it in to AFA and get that mint loose complete figure graded and protected. Preservation of the collection is vital and key to owning one of the greatest line of toys ever made along with of course the greatest story ever told.
