This guide is a brief synopsis of the different kinds of spell vessels and how they work on their own and in conjunction with each other. 

You will find that I offer a large variety of spell types at different price points in my shop. Many times, clients ask me what the difference is between an oil and an amulet for example. What is the difference between a love spell oil and a love spell amulet or a money drawing spell bottle versus a money drawing crystal? -there is some confusion around this, so I thought I should write a guide to answer some of these questions.

There are three primary carriers that you will commonly see in magick. Every spell cast carrier item has it's own level of power and it's own particular way of throwing energy.  A carrier is any physical object that a spell is cast on whether it be a bottle, oil, crystal, or amulet. Different carriers have different levels of power and they all tend to work very well in conjunction with one another. There are various types of carriers, but typically they will fall under one of these three categories. First, let's look at a list of common spell carriers and their properties.

OILS/POTIONS:

Oils can be used for anointing objects (candles, divination tools, crystals, etc) as well as the body. Since Ancient Egyptian times, magickal perfumery has been used to create magickal energetic shifts. The Egyptians knew the power of scent and the vast magickal properties that aromatic potions had. Since we are sensory beings, the sense of smell is a very powerful tool. Research in neuroanatomy shows that scents provide direct access to the emotional part of our brains and our memory. Since the beginning of time, many different cultures and magickal systems have understood the powerful role of ritual and magickal aromatics. I have been studying and working in magickal perfumery for the past fifteen years, and it is a subject that I am very passionate about.

Oils are a very powerful tool in magick. They work very strongly on their own, but they are very effective in charging other objects as well. Any magickal oil can be used to consecrate and add an extra charge to amulets, crystals, and divination tools. I also make some oils specifically for charging purposes. Perfumes are most powerful in the areas of influencing other people and creating mental and spiritual shifts in the wearer. Another interesting thing about perfume is that it smells differently on each person since we all have different body chemistry. For example, a concoction of rose and frankincense may smell more rosey on one person and more like frankincense on another. On another person, it may smell like something different all together. This is part of the magick of perfume--it actually bonds with every individual in a very personal way.

I recommend oils for everyday wear. The more you wear a magickal oil, the more time it has to interact with your energy field. You can wear different spelled oils together, you can wear them on their own, or you can wear different ones depending on your mood. I have a variety of over fifty favorites and I alternate between them all depending on what kind of mood I am in or what kind of effects I am looking for. Oils are a wonderful base for any magickal life.

*A little personal side note: I am currently working on a very elaborate line of magickal oils which I hope to release into  my Ebay store within a month or so. I have been making oils here and there and my Ebay clients really love them, but I have yet to get really focused. So, now I am focusing on a line of fifteen powerful oils which I think everyone is going to really love!

SPELL BOTTLES & JARS:

Spell bottles are a traditional metaphysical craft that practitioners have been offering for centuries. A spell bottle can contain a variety of objects from herbs and roots to oils and rare power objects. A spell bottle permeates the environment with the intention of the spell. In some cases, the spell bottle is created as a visualization tool and the receiver has to do a simple series of exercises in order to activate and release the spell. The best spell bottles will be created in the highest quality glass bottles and they will last a lifetime with proper care. The power within a spell bottle never wears out, and in most cases it will grow stronger with time. Though they tend to be more expensive due to the amount of time casting takes as well as the ingredients used, a spell bottle is a wonderful investment item because it lasts a lifetime and contains a tremendous amount of power.

You will see many spell bottles and glass jars in my shop. They take me the most time to create and they are the most costly for me to make since only the best of the best ingredients are used. With my spell bottles I am following in the footsteps of the ancient practitioners who crafted unique spell bottles filled with rare and potent magickal ingredients.

AMULETS:

An amulet is any jewelry object or other small object that contains a spell. It may be a ring, pendant, charm bag, or other small item. All cultures and religions understand the power of amulets, and each culture and religion has their own version of amulets that are significant to their belief systems. Amulets are created primarily for physical bonding with their owner. The difference between an amulet and an oil is that an oil acts with your own energy to create the spell and an amulet primarily gets it's power from the carrier object. Amulets are also cast to connect with certain deities and spirits.

An amulet is another good everyday magickal item. In the case of jewelry, you can wear it every day and the effects will be cumulative. Amulets are meant to be worn or carried. Some are created with specific magical purposes and others are created to be a good luck charm or general blessing.

A subcategory of amulets would be crystals and gemstones. Crystals and gemstones are cast a little bit differently because crystals and gemstones have their own powerful magickal properties. A spell works in conjunction with the powers that are inherent in crystals and gemstones to begin with. These items tend to be highly charged and they can also be cleansed of their original spell (use saltwater to cleanse of original spell) and recast with a new one very easily. If you do not cleanse, then the item will retain it's charge indefinitely.

Energetic Scale Of Carrier Objects:

It is very difficult to try and explain the subtle magickal energetic differences in carrier objects, but I am going to try my best.

SPELL BOTTLES:

Power Level (general energetic power):   HIGHEST/FLUCTUATING OR POINTED
Works through (how it energetically works): Affects life circumstances and creates changes on an etheric/soul level. Energy comes from the objects used and the spell cast.
Longevity:  (how long effects can be seen) Effects will fluctuate and come in waves for the life of the bottle or until the goal has been completely reached. For example, if it is a general happiness bottle then the effects will fluctuate and come in strong waves for the life of the bottle. If it is a focused spell like a revenge spell then it remains active until the goal is reached.
Needs Recharging: No


OILS:

Power Level (general energetic power):   HIGH/STEADY (Oils show effects while they are worn. If you are using them to anoint candles or objects, anoint weekly or daily).
Works through (how it energetically works): Physical body and senses of self and others. Spirits are also drawn to aromatics, so spiritual energy can also be involved. In the case of centuries old fragrances, they also draw upon the power of the past and residual imprints.
Longevity:  (how long effects can be seen) As long as is worn
Needs Recharging: No

AMULETS:

Power Level (general energetic power):   MEDIUM-HIGH/STEADY (Amulets are meant to be worn or carried. Their energy is steady and ranges from medium to high).
Works through (how it energetically works): Energetic composition of the carrier and specific spell casting. Interacts energetically with the wearer through the carrier.
Longevity:  (how long effects can be seen) As long as is worn or interacted with
Needs Recharging: Yes. In the case of most jewelry, recharging is recommended since daily wear can tend to drain some of the energy. Charm bags and mojo bags do not typically need recharging.

Recommendations For Collecting And Using:

You will find that most magickals and spelled items work most effectively in conjunction with one another since each has their own individual way of affecting things. An oil is most effective for influencing your own mood and the mood of others as well as attracting various spiritual energies, whereas a spell bottle is most effective at stabilizing a certain energy or intention in your life, and various amulets have specific purposes and can be carried or worn daily.

You will find that using items in conjunction with one another will create the most powerful energetic shifts. Different people are also drawn to different things, so while a wearable potion may be attractive to someone who loves aromas, an amulet may be more effective for someone who cannot tolerate fragrance. People are drawn to things for different emotional and aesthetic reasons. I have many clients who not only love the magickal qualities of my spell bottles, but the love the way they look, and they collect them by the dozens to fill their curio cabinets. Other people get obsessed with different magickal perfumes and start a collection of them. There is no right or wrong way to build a magickal collection since it is really a matter of personal taste. However, if you are just starting in the world of magick, I recommend using an oil, an amulet, and a bottle just so you can experience the energetic effects of each. Also, when you combine different carriers, you typically will get stronger effects since the energy ends up coming at you from several different directions at once.
