How to retain the beauty and long life of my Pyrex?

Do not put Pyrex in the dishwasher. You can and your piece may not be damaged, but why take the chance of faded or destroyed colors. Strong detergents used in dishwashers can and do destroy Pyrex’s beautiful decoration and color. Remember, it has manufactured before the dishwasher was a fixture in our modern homes.

It is advisable to hand wash in your kitchen sink with your favorite dish detergent or soap. If a piece doesn’t come clean easily with this method I advise your try the following products.

EBay Glass and Pottery Board members first called this product to our attention. It is an outstanding cleaner. Board members use a special cleaner and polish with mild abrasives on Pyrex. It is wonderful. They advise us and we concur we have never had a problem with fading or loss of decoration when this product is used. It comes in a unique gold and blue cylinder container. This product is a scouring powder. You can purchase it in the house ware department at the largest retail store chain in the USA. It is also available in super markets, drug store chains, and also in a linen house ware outlets. It is easy to find throughout the USA. The cost ranges from $1.00 to $4.00, depending on the size and store. To use you moisten a sponge and put the powder on the sponge and scrub the surface of the piece of Pyrex.

Another helpful product used to clean glass is a orange colored hold liquid cleaner and Household Ammonia. Use about ½ cup of each in a sink full of water. It does take dirt and grim off of glass. You should use plastic kitchen gloves. This can redden your hands. Be very careful. It does not remove brown or black grease build up on Pyrex, but it does make glassware sparkle.

If you notice that your Pyrex tends to come out of the oven with splatters marks and grease on it, you may want to check your oven. A dirty oven can send grease splatter on to your Pyrex. Just turn on your cleaning cycle on your oven before you go to bed or while relaxing after dinner.
