Almost everyone, at some time or other, has collected something.  Ususally these "collections" end up set aside and unattended.  Some collections end up costing thousands of dollars only to be sold at some yard sale for pennies on the dollar.  The truth is, most collections are only important to the collector, not your average consumer.  With that said, we need to find something inexpensive, easily obtainable and most importantly....FUN!  I started collecting Maisto 1:18 scale diecast motorcycles.  I have owned different motorcycles since the age of 17 and I still ride today at the age of 42.  You have probably guessed it, but I have a Suzuki Hayabusa that I bought new in 2001.  Naturally, I needed a small model of my new bike to set on the desk at work so I went on the prowl for a toy.  Ebay was the obvious answer!  I ended up buying a matching diecast for around $6 including shipping.  Ever since that moment it arrived at the house, I have found myself stockpiling these little bikes.  Maisto makes alot of different models.  They produce a certain make and model for a few months then semi-retire it.  After 3 or 4 months, the same bike will start showing up again on Ebay.  These models are fairly inexpensive, don't take up a lot of room and they appeal to more that just a collector.  These appeal to riders like myself who want a miniature copy of their own bike.  Maisto's 1:18 scale motorcycles are usually 4.5" tp 5" long so they don't take up alot of room.  They are highly detailed and functional.  Each bike is steerable, has a kickstand or racing stand. real rubber tires and a working rear shock. The tires roll and each model has the proper decals placed on its highly detailed bodywork.  As I mentioned above, these are pretty small in size so you won't have to dedicate alot of room for your collection.  I have over 218 different models and I can fit them all on a 4' x 1.5' shelf.  One of the best things about these bikes is that once you're ready to stop collecting, they can be sold for hardly any loss in initial investment.  They are fun to play with, drive on your desk and just to set on a shelf so everyone knows what you ride.  No matter if you are collecting all makes and models, just concentrating on sportbikes or showing your love for all of the Suzuki bikes, the Maistos are a great way to start an interesting, inexpensive hobby.  If you do decide to buy on Ebay, always ask your seller about combined shipping for multiple items.  Most sellers will be glad to reduce shipping on additional bikes.  I have attached a picture of one of my Maisto bikes so you can see its detail.  Of course, I had to throw in a picture of the Hayabusa as well!
