The Hen House Story

The creative joy from The Hen House is the inspiration of Joyce Ditz, R.N. Working in her basement, Joyce, out of her love for at home moms and her fondness for fun creations transformed her hobby into a flourishing business.
Joyce designed hand puppets for an educational children's program called "Dangers of Smoking" while she was serving as a board member of the local chapter of the Lung Association in 1979. In 1980, founded The Hen House. Today, it still embraces her philosophy of caring and nurturing with three generations of Joyce's family and scores of extended family artisans working with the business.

DITZ designs and Hen House creations are enjoyed around the world because of their imaginative, charming and heartwarming character, and quality. The great attention to detail adds to their realism as well as their ability to draw people into an enchanting world. Touches of humor permeate throughout the line with such items as bears serving as footrests, butlers and fisherman. Father Christmas Pieces make great gifts, and become treasure family heirlooms.

The Product Line

Ditz Designs manufactures a wide variety of beautiful, high quality items. Their products include:

Christmas/Winter Items: Father Christmas (Large, Small, Postcard Collection), Tree Bears (40 inch, Table Top, 4 Foot, 5 Foot and 6 Foot), Wreaths (several varieties measuring 30"), Standing Bears (Santa Bear and the Christmas Butler Bear - available in Black, Brown or Polar) and Penguins (from 5 inches to 20 inches tall). All Father Christmas items and Tree Bears light up.

Looking for something unique? Ditz also makes the Standing Bears in Dressed and Undressed versions - including the famous Butler Bear.

For Spring, they offer the 44 inch Standing Easter Rabbit in White, Gray or Brown.

Ditz is also very well known for their Footrest Animal Collection. Standing approximately 19inch they make a great addition to any room and are very comfortable!

Father Christmas - 57 Inch

The most sought after collectible from Ditz Designs is the Large, 57 inch Father Christmas. Each year Ditz retires some of the past year's Father Christmas and brings you many new designs. You rarely see any retired pieces for sale - once you own a Ditz Father Christmas you won't want to part with it! Pictured above is the 2008 Cranberry Cringle IV.

Father Christmas - Small

Father Christmas designs are also created in a Small version. These unique santas range in size from 29 inch to 36 inch tall. They are not the same designs as the 57 inch in a smaller version but a completely separate line of Father Christmas with exciting new designs each year. Pictured above is the 29 inch Holiday Boulevard for 2008.

In 2008 Ditz Designs introduced The Postcard Collection. These exquisite designs depict Father Christmas in many different scenes and range in size from 12 inches to 20 inches tall. Pictured above is the 2008 Toy Maker.

Wreaths - 30 Inch

A wreath is a wonderful accent to your front door or anywhere you have space. In 2008 there are four styles to choose from.
