Collecting diecast model cars in various scales has been my passion
for over 15 years.A few tips I have learned over the years.I collect
various forms and scales of diecast models.Low production runs
don't always dictate value.A historic or rare model has more value
then a average model with a lower production run.Lemans,Sebring,
Indy 500,Daytona winners are more collectible, especially if driven by
legendary drivers such as Mario Andretti. Special Dealer released
items usually are more collectible, because of low PR runs, tobacco
liveries, and special packaging.Minichamps does a lot of these.
Some companies have high level of collectibility because of
extremely high level of detail such as CMC,Exoto,West Coast
Precision Minatures.Drivers have a lot to due with collectibility
also.Jim Clark,Bruce McLaren,Ayrton Senna,Mark Donohue,
Dale Earnhardt,Richard Petty just to name a few.Be careful
when collecting 1/12th scale models. They have great detail,
but collectibility is sometimes not as good, due to the massive
amount of space needed in an average home to display them.
The best scales are usually are between 1/18th and 1/24th.
Out of Production models are usually a good bet.Nascar models
basically have bottomed out because overexposure with their many
paint schemes.1/43rd scale models are good for people who have
limited space. They usually come in their own display cases and can
be stacked to save space. Some people collect for value, some for
the passion for a certain vehicle.Whatever yours is,Happy Collecting.
