I have noticed lately several auctions for large cents purposefully listed categorically as half cents. Why? This trick is predominantly used with large cents dated 1849-1857. The reason this is done is that 1849-1857 half cents are much sought after by type set collectors. While 1849-1857 large cents have value, they are worth much less than half cents bearing the same date. There is way too many of these listings for it to be a simple mistake by the seller. Many are listed in both large cent AND half cent categories even though they are large cents. If you want proof, take a look at the US half cent listings. See all the large cents? Their dates will be 1849-1857 too. Do not fall for this trick.
