Q: Why are the holes smaller?
A: All cardboard coin albums have smaller holes than the actual coin to keep them snugly fitted and to prevent them from falling out of the holder when opened or displayed.

Q: Help! My coins don't fit in the small holes!
A: They will fit, but you have to help them as all veteran coin collectors do. The slot holes in the cardboard are made to a specified size in each album and I have never seen a major variance in any of the thousands of albums I've seen, sold, and used over my last 40 years of coin collecting.

Q: OK...How do I make them fit?
A: To make the coins fit in album it is suggested to try and put the coin at an angle and press it in with your thumb. This doesn't always work on brand new albums. It's OK to use a small rubber mallet or a metal hammer is OK if you cover the coin with a piece of cardboard to protect it. Then tap the coin into the slot. I have also seen the plastic handle of a screwdriver used to press coins into albums. Some albums you can slightly fold the album at the middle of the coin slot to facilitate an easier fit, then press it in with your thumb, rubber mallet, etc.

My Dad and other old coin collectors do it this way and also have other similar methods and some even use what looks like a small drill press with a thick wooden cylinder to press cons into albums, but all agree that you never hit a coin with a metal hammer directly as it will damage the coin!
