Ebay has given Coca-Cola Collectors the opportunity to search and purchase thousands of unique, vintage Coca-Cola memorabilia; some items that we would never have the resources to find. Sadly, Ebay has also brought out numerous scam artists and opened up a whole new venue to sell fake, reproduction and just plain tasteless, not to mention worthless Coca-Cola memorabilia. I always tell young collectors that they need to learn; become as knowledgable as they can, when it comes to collecting. The access to high-tech color copiers has made it easy for someone to simply color copy an original item or even copy a photo out of a collectible book and sell it as an original item. And with access to Coca-Cola logos, which are being reproduced mainly to restore items, scam artists are using them for everything. Just adhere one to a gum ball machine and call it an original Coca-Cola gum ball machine. The gum ball machine could very well be old, but the decals are brand new! Coca-Cola never produced a gumball machine...or a cash register...or an ice box freezer...or cast iron toys...and definitely not a nude nun belt buckle! To better familarize yourself with what is original versus fake or a reproduction, I strongly suggest you purchase Petretti's Coca-Cola Collectibles Price Guide. The back pages are devoted to revealing many of the ways scam artists try to fool you into believing you are bidding on something original. Buyer beware! If it seems too good to be true, chances are it's a fake. Remember; do your homework. Read and learn everything that you can about collecting.
