Hot Tips for Preserving Your Clothes &  Making Them  Last Longer:

Never store a dirty item. Always clean your clothes before you store them. Food has chemicals and other ingredients that will eat away at the fabric, and you may find that your favorite formal dress, shirt, or pants  is destroyed the next time you go to wear it. Deodorant will discolor the underarm of shirts and dresses, so it's a good idea to clean these regularly, so as not to allow the chemicals to sink in and discolor the fabric.

Mesh Bags Preserve The Fabric and Protect it from the Washing Machine :  I highly recommend mesh laundry bags for laundering your most valuable & favorite clothing items--this is the most important thing you can do to preserve the newness of your clothes, as the washing machine will wear your clothes out faster than anything else. Mesh bags will keep you from having to hand wash everything and will protect the fabric from wearing out prematurely. They also protect durable clothing items from rubbing against more delicate items which also wears the fabric out. Some people do not like the chemicals from the dry cleaners, so using mesh bags is a good alternative to hand-washing.

Launder your clothing inside out: Rayon and other natural fibers will last longer if you turn them inside out before laundering. You can tell when rayon clothing has been improperly cleaned; there will be little pills all over the fabric. This is especially true regarding the new fabrics imported from Morocco. Moroccan fabrics which are mostly cotton and rayon blends are very delicate and will easily pill if you just throw them in the washing machine; when they rub against other items, it damages the delicate fibers and what you end up with is an item that looks old and worn. Turn the item inside out, use a mesh bag on a gentle cycle.

I recommend this for some of the more quality labels that make washable garments including Las Manos   CP ShadesApril CornellEileen FisherChico's DesignJ.JillFlax Coldwater CreekMarc Ware-Hot Cotton , aka Marc Ware ,  and  Tienda Ho just to name a few.

I hope this has been useful. I've been in the used clothing business on and off for twenty years, and these tips will definitely help to keep your clothes looking new and fresh.
