Scholastic, Inc. is one of the most trusted publishers of books and materials to help children learn to read. Clifford the Big Red Dog, created by Norman Bridwell, is one of Scholastic's many characters featured in Hello Readers.
What are Hello Readers?
Hello Readers are rectangular in shape (the same size and shape as Big Red Readers). Scholastic, Inc. established four levels of Hello Readers. Level 1 books are written for grade levels preschool-grade 1, and ages 3-6. Level 2 books are written for grade levels kindergarten-grade 2, and ages 5-7. Level 3 books are written for grade levels 1-2, and ages 6-8. Level 4 books are written for grade levels 2-3, and ages 7-9. You can tell which level the book is as it is written on the front cover. On the back is a guide which offers the information just given above.
Clifford the Big Red Dog is featured only in Level 1 books as Clifford's character was created for beginning readers.
What Tools are Included in Hello Readers?
Inside, Hello Readers feature a letter to parents, explaining how to use the book, a checklist of other Hello Reader books, to encourage the child to read more, and a word list in the back. The word list is used to review words used in the book that might be new to a child. In this way, comprehension is enhanced. The story itself features bright colorful illustrations and large easy to read words.

What about Accelerated Reading Levels, Etc.?
In addition to Scholastic, Inc.'s level system, other systems have been applied to Hello Readers. For example, the Accelerated Reading system categorizes Clifford and the Halloween Parade as AR 0.9, with 0.5 points. In a school system, this book would probably be read most often by children in kindergarten to 1st grade. Some eBay sellers have started to include level information such as AR in their listings. This can be especially helpful for parents in choosing the right reading material for their children.
