Cleaning the OLD medicine, whiskey, wine, apothecary bottles you've purchased or dug up.
1. Soak your un-tempered glass bottles in luke warm to cool water. This will soften debris that clings to the out side and make it easy to remove crusted debris from the inside.
2. Remove as much debris as you can by soaking in plain water. Change the water often.
USE RUBBER GLOVES AND EXTREME CARE TO AVOID SPLASHING THIS MIXTURE IN YOUR EYES OR ON YOUR FACE PLEASE READ THE DIRECTIONS FOR CORRECT USAGE OF THESE PRODUCTS
3. Wearing rubber gloves ( take extreme care to avoid splashing this mixture in your eyes or face, please read the directions on the bottle for correct usage) add a cleaning agent called "Works for Bathroom" or "CLR". "Works for Bathroom" can be purchased for under $2.00 at discount dollar stores. "CLR "(Calcium. Lime, Rust) is higher end and cost more this product can be found in supermarkets, discount stores etc. Costing more does not mean it works better. Use the product thats best for your budget.
4. Wearing rubber gloves ( take extreme care to avoid splashing this mixture in your eyes or face, please read the directions on the bottle for correct usage), place "Works" or "CLR" in plastic bucket of cool or luke warm water and submerge the bottles, place this mixture outdoors or in a well ventilated space. Let it soak for a few hours or days if necessary.
5. If you still have stubborn stains or debris inside your bottles ( this is really a problem with narrow medicine bottles or bottles with small openings). Your local discount department store or local pet store may hold the solution. You can purchase a set of brushes used to clean fish tanks, select the soft bristle type to avoid scratching the inside or the outside of your bottles ( they range in price from $1.00 to $10.00 a set) . You should find a variety of brush sizes in the packet. If you can't find the fish tank brushes, purchase baby bottle brushes and baby bottle nipple brushes, soft bristle type. Another tool I find handy is the old pipe cleaner its narrow, flexible and inexpensive.
6. If you want to give your bottle a finished look you can purchase sized corks from art and crafts stores like Michaels,AC Moore and Walmart craft section.
