Be careful to not wear any jewelry that may chip the piece. Use
room temperature water with a little woolite in it. I find that woolite
works better than anything else. Do not let the piece hit
anything hard (faucet or sink sides). Rinse with room temperature
water. I wash larger pieces by placing them on a towel on the
kitchen counter top. I let the soapy water and then the rinse
water flow onto the floor and mop the floor when done. I use a plastic
tupperware item to pour the water over the item. I figure a few
minutes mopping costs less than replacing an item that may be valued in
the hundreds or thousands. I put punch bowls upside down to wash
the cut glass pattern. I wash the inside using first a sponge
with woolite, then dry with paper towel, then use wet paper towels to
clean out the woolite. Wood toothpicks work well for getting gunk out
of the intricately cut patterns when a sponge doesn't work. I
found that woolite also works for ceramic and porcelain items.
