Well the folks that sell cleaning polish are gonna hate this but I thought I'd pass along some experience to some of my customers. If you have solid cast quality sterling I have a little trick for cleaning that product. I have thousands of charms. When I think they might be looking a little dull I put them into a long white men's sock - tie it off and just toss it into the washer! True story. Make sure you don't throw it into the dryer - just spread the items out onto a dry towel once they come out of the washer. I actually blow dry them with a hair dryer. I can clean 100's of pieces in a single wash this way and their good to go for many years. This process also works for me on charm bracelets providing there are no stones or plated items on the bracelet. Also - I've used a regular rock tumbler with PVC pellets for polished up sterling. Probably most of you won't have a rock tumbler kicking around the garage but this process works well too. I put a dab of dishwasher detergent and a tablespoonful of windex glass cleaner in - start it up and let it run for an hour or so. Use your spaghetti strainer for rinsing and repeat the towel drying process above.
For most of you the washing machine method will work fine. Remember - no stones in the jewelry - sometimes they fall out - but for solid cast sterling you should be amazed.
Warning: don't try this with cheap import sterling - make sure you have solid american made sterling to insure the quality of the product - look for lost wax casting items made by Americans.
Hope you found this helpful. Any help you need just email me.
