HOW TO FIT STEERING COLUMN LOWERING BRACKET (NON-AIRBAG TYPE)
- 1st, will need to slacken steering rack u bolts, which are located on front/under heater area of floor (2 on passenger side & another 2 on driver side), to access them you'll need to lift carpet (&soundproofing mat underneath it), & that's it. There are 4 nuts to slacken. IT IS VERY IMPORTANT TO DO THIS, as otherwise you will ruin the steering rack & will need to get a new one. Do not forget to do this, as it is common for people to oversee this & end up driving with damaged rack without knowing, which is obviously very dangerous.
- Depending if your car's steering column bracket been fiddled with, you will need to remove the shear bolt that holds the column to the original bracket. There are several way of doing this & we find that grinding the head off the shear bolt is the fastest & easiest way. BRACKET IS SITUATED IN-BETWEEN STEERING COLUMN & LOWER DASH RAIL. BE CAREFUL NOT TO DAMAGE ANY WIRING & OTHER BITS & PIECES WHEN USING GRINDER (OBVIOUSLY DO NOT INJURE YOUR SELF AS well, IF YOU NEVER USED GRINDER, GET SOMEONE ELSE TO DO IT. BETTER BE SAFE THAN SORRY).
- Once original steering column has been removed, fit the lowering bracket, reassemble & adjust the column to desired height. Note that most brackets are only sold with one bolt, so you may need to have another one, as original may be unusable after removal.
- Tighten the al bolt on column & finally tighten the steering rack bolts.
