The Halloween Tree - THe Halloween Tree . What is amazing about this very eerie and supernatureal tale is the way it also gives accurate info about legends and myths throughout history.
Roald Dahl's Book of Ghost Stories - While this is one I recommend, I am providing a general link to Roald Dahl because so many of his books are great for kids and so many are creepy or spooky. He has a certain macabre sense of humor, even when he isn't writing scary stories. Roald Dahl
The Adams Family and Adams Family Values - Adams Family DVD I also suggest you do a general search under the keywords Adams Family so you can see some of the vintage television shows and even the book on which the movies were based.
Goosebumps books, including How to Kill a MOnster by R. L. Stine - Goosebumps books - These books have been enormously popular although some complain of them being formulaic. They are a great way to get reluectant readers to stick with a book and this book is a particular favorite.
The Legend of Sleepy Hollow or The Headless Horseman - DVD or book - I happen to like the one with Johnny Depp - Johnny Depp DVDs - but there are many variations of the book which features the very spooky headless horseman. Choose a version that is suitable for your children. Some kids just can't take scary movies, even though many classic fairy tales, myths, etc...were often quite scary. Know your child. The Headless Horseman
Stephen King books aimed at children - for teens, I happen to think Stand by Me (yes, this IS Stephen King) or My Pretty Pony (if you can find it) are good choices. Stand by Me Stephen King King is a master of horror, of course, but some kids might not handle certain of his movies very well.
Frank Zappa's son has written a book called The Monstrous Memoirs of a Mighty McFearless and this is one to put on your Ebay Watch list.Ahmet Zappa Aimed at reluctant readers, this one includes monster fact files, has great images, recipes, etc.
