Here are a few things to consider when purchasing Remote Keyless Entry Transmitter Keyfob Remotes for Chrysler and Dodge vehicles.
Call your local Dealership parts department with VIN number to verify if you have the option or not on your vehicle before purchasing a keyless entry remote for your application.
If you have a current remote then all you have to do is match your FCC ID from the back of your remote. Part Number can be different sometimes, just depends on manufacturer of the vehicle. But if the fcc macthes then it will work.
Most Chrysler & Dodge vehicle have to be programmed with a DRBIII scan tool or Locksmith can sometimes program remotes, unless you have a current working remote for the vehicle, then you can program the remote yourself. This programming information is in your owners manual.
All Jeep vehicles 1996 and up except Liberty has to be done by Dealership or Locksmith, Jeep Liberty falls in the above category.
The new style Chrysler & Dodge remotes with the key made into them that have cut keys on them are useless, you cannot service the key blade or reprogram the remote to another vehicle. Once these type have been cut and programmed and removed from vehicle they are dead weight. So if you need this type just make sure it is a New one.
Locksmiths have a programming tool that they use to program the SENTRY (chip keys) type ignition systems when you puchase a new key from them. This same tool will also program the Keyless Entry Remotes for your vehicle. This is why a locksmith can program your remote if you do not have remote. They are about half the cost of having a dealership programming your keyless entry remote system.
I hope this information is helpful to some people that need it.
