What's the difference between the G5 PowerPC and The Intel Core Duo or Solo?
The difference between a PowerPC G5 Processor and an Intel Core Duo or Solo processor is simple . . . SPEED! The PowerPC G5 processors are generally way slower than the Intel Core Duo processors. The Intel Core Duo processors are replacing all of the PowerPC G5 processors in the new Macs. The only computer that has yet to be updated with the new Intel processor is the PowerMac G5. If you plan on buying a PowerMac I would advise you to wait untill Apple puts an intel processor in it whitch is expected to happen sometime between August and September of this year.
What things should I look for when buying a Mac on ebay?
When buying on a Mac on ebay you want to look for the Following things.
1. Does it have an Intel Processor?
2. Does it still have its original Applecare warranty?
3. How much RAM does it have? (Usually you will want at least 512MB of RAM)
4. Screen Size
5. Style (This usually comes naturally on a Mac)
6. Does it come with Mac OS X 10.4 Tiger?
7. Does your seller accept paypal and does he have a feedback score of at least 50 of whitch 98% or more are positve (The seller has to have that for you to qualify for PayPal's Buyer Protection)?
What kind of Mac is right for me?
For the average consumer the iMac is perfect, it combines speed, built in display, ease of use, and a stylish compact design. The imac is also great for gamers because of its ATI Radeon X1600 graphics card with 128MB GDDR3 memory! If you are buying a computer for home leisure and you don't mind spending around $1000, I would definitely recomend this for you.
If you are buying a computer for your home but don't want to spend a lot of money and you are fine with using your old monitor, then I would recomend this for you . . . the Mac Mini starts at $600 in the store and is blazing fast if all you do is browse the web, send emails, and use other basic processes. If you are a gamer this is NOT for you because it has an integrated graphics card!(Did I mention that every Mac includes a built-in Wireless G Card for using the internet?)
If you are a student and need a laptop or your not a student and just need an inexpensive portable than go with the MacBook. It can handle almost anything you throw at it. . . except gaming. If you are a gamer this is NOT for you because it has an integrated graphics card. Like every Mac it has a built in Wireless G Card.
If you are a professional or just a gamer who needs a laptop then get the MacBook Pro. The MacBook Pro is Apple's fastest computer and because of its ATI Radeon X1600 graphics card with 256MB GDDR3 memory it is great for gamers. It is also great for anyone who needs a very fast reliable computer and like any Mac it has a Built in Wireless G Card.
The only people who would really need the PowerMac are software developers and Movie editiors. This computer is really way over kill for your average consumer.
What kind of software do Mac's come with?
Macs come bundled with iMovie, iDVD, iTunes, iPhoto, iWeb and GarageBand. Also, every Mac except for the PowerMac comes with Front Row and Photo Booth. To learn more about all of this software you can read about it on Apple's website.
What kind of warranty does a Mac come with?
All Macs come with a 1 year AppleCare warranty. Apple has world renowned support and their warranty program is light years ahead of any other computer company's.
I strongly recomend you use paypal to pay for anything you purchase on eBay because it is the safest way to pay.
I hope this Guide was helpfull to you and Good Luck finding you Mac!
