Sure, there are many "survival" knives with the "Rambo" look - but you are almost always better off with a good mid-size multitool that you will have with you almost everywhere than that 8"-blade "survival" sheath knife with a hollow handle back in your drawer at home.
Leatherman makes a variety of multitools that are excellent for this purpose - notably the Juice, which is comfortably pocket-size, yet incorporates a wide variety of sturdy tools. It has everything from both regular and needle-nose pliers to wire cutters to both straight and Phillips screwdrivers - as well as (of course) knife blades, bottle opener, can opener, file, etc. It offers all these things in a package much-sturdier than any pocketknife - and at no more than a third the cost of the "Rambo"-style "survival knives."
Such multitools are ideal for everything from auto emergencies to wilderness ones - or for those going to Iraq.
See the Internet Gun Show for this and other Leatherman multitools that really are ideal for "survival" use.
