With so many styles of pot racks to choose from, sometimes it can be daunting to decide on the best rack for your kitchen. Want to create the feel of a traditional Italian kitchen or replicate the sleek interiors of the professional kitchens you see on TV? Even standard cookware looks great hanging from a beautiful rack. Try using our step-by-step guide to help you narrow down the choices, and then have fun picking your favorite pot rack!

Step 1: Decide where you will place your pot rack

Choosing a spot for your pot rack is the first step in determining the right piece to fit in your kitchen, and will establish whether a hanging or wall-mounted rack is better suited to your needs.

  • Hanging Pot Rack: These racks are typically placed over kitchen islands, peninsulas, sinks or counters, though they do not necessarily need to hang over anything. Sufficient ceiling height is needed to ensure adequate clearance of racks, particularly in the open.
  • Wall Mounted Pot Rack: these racks work well between or next to cabinets, or mounted over stoves or on top of open space, where there is sufficient clearance for your pots and utensils to hang.

Step 2: Calculate what pot rack size you need

By measuring the area where you intend to hang your pot rack, you can determine what size rack will best fit your kitchen.

The majority of hanging pot racks are designed for 8-foot to 9-foot ceilings, so that people of average height can easily access pots. For shorter-than-average chefs or higher-than average ceilings, extension hooks may be necessary in order to lower the rack.

To find a comfortable “reaching height,” add between 6 and 10 inches to your height, depending on the length of your arms. Note that this is where the bottom of your pots and pans should fall, as you do not need to be able to reach all the way up to the hooks. Ensure that the difference between your ceiling height and your “reaching height” can sufficiently accommodate the height of your rack and the length of your pots and pans.

Step 3: Determine the specific style of your pot rack

We offer pot racks in a wide variety of shapes, finishes, and with a number of practical features which you can mix and match to fit your kitchen’s décor and your unique needs.

  • Shape: Our pot racks are available in rectangular/square, half round, oval, and utensil bar shapes. This shape refers to the base of the rack, or what your pots and pans will hang off of.
  • Finish: Our pot racks are available in various materials and finishes. Choose between wood, stainless steel, copper and steel, brass, and more, all as durable as they are stylish. Remember, though they are only pictured in one finish, many of our racks are available in many additional finish choices.
  • Features: We carry pot racks with built-in lighting, grids and shelves for the ultimate in functional style.

Step 4: Hang your pot rack, adjust the height, fill it with your pots and pans, and enjoy!
