Here is some simple hints to help you pick a color right for you and your horse.
Matching colors with Your Horse is where you should start first. The best way to match your horse is by taking a swatch of material in a color you are considering and draping it over your horse then stand back to see how it looks from a judges view. Below is some guidelines that may help you. Bays, blacks, grays, whites and blue roans look very atttractive in bright colors such as blue, purple and red. Chestnuts, rose grays, duns, sorrels and liver chestnuts match well with light earth tones such as sand, whiskey and chocolate. Grullas, palominos and buckskins look great in almost any color depending on the particular shade. Blues, greens, teals, turquoise and black are flattering for almost any color horse.
Colors right for you! Your body type, age and class can determine which colors would best suit you. Light colors emphasize and darker colors minimize curves. Black is always a safe bet but at least 75 percent of your competition is wearing black. Bright colors look great and are more appropriate for youth riders than ametuers and professionals. To look professional requires a nicely put together outfit done in the same color including shirt, pants and chaps. This is the best way to dress for both youth and adult riders.
Remember you want the judge to notice you! Try to find a unique outfit that you know half of the class will not be wearing. Remember to pick a color you like!!! Have fun this show season!!
