First and foremost, congratulations on your engagement! Enjoy EVERY SECOND of the planning process, because it should be FUN! Don't stress out, don't worry about everything, and DON'T OVERSPEND YOUR BUDGET! Everything will fall into place and work out PERFECTLY!
So, you want wedding favors for your wedding? I have made a checklist for you below to follow:
1) What colors are you wedding?
2) What season, time of day, etc. is your wedding?
3) How many people will be attending your wedding? (Rule of thumb: Take the total number of guests and subtract 20%. That is more than likely the maximum number of guests attending. That number will drop DRAMATICALLY for a large amount of out of town guests, holidays, rough weather (winter snows, hurricane season, etc.), and weekday weddings.
4) Do you want edible, permanent, entertaining, or crowd participating favors?
Once you have answered these questions, choosing the right favors for your wedding will be easy! I suggest the following:
- If you want unique favors for your wedding, stay away from the traditional bells, matchbooks, bags or baskets of Hershey's Kisses.
- If you want to MAKE your own favors, I suggest purchasing a Martha Stewart Weddings magazine. She puts out a reception edition each year that has AMAZING favor ideas! Recruit your friends and family into helping you make them.
- If you are having an outdoor, summer or late spring wedding, I suggest staying away from chocolate or other candy for obvious reasons. The last thing you need is a bunch of sticky fingers near your perfect white dress!!!!
- Chocolate is ALWAYS a great favor to have! While most guests like the personalized, permanent favors at first, they will simply be thrown in a box or left behind (I still have 100 of 150 bookmarks that I had at my wedding). You can personalize the candy by adding a tag with your names and the date on them, or get those cute candy bars with the personalized wrappers! You can also make your own chocolates using molds and coloring white chocolate to match your colors. (I sell chocolate favors...go to http://stores.ebay.com/the-wedding-wish-maker for more information!)
- Finally, don't go overboard on the favors. They should be a very small part of your wedding budget, and as I said, most guests forget about the favors soon after the wedding! Keep it simple, with 1-2 favors per guest. You can even have seperate favors for kids if you choose (give them small toys to keep them amused, like puzzles or those old cardboard drawing pads that don't use actually ink).
Hopefully this has helped you and made things a little easier! Be sure to check out my store for great favors at an inexpensive cost! You can also use a search engine and find hundreds of sites for favors! Just be weary of most sites and price shop! You may find the same favors on a wholesale or discount site for a LOT less!
