Choosing The Right Instrument
by music4all2nite
We receive many questions from our customers about choosing the right instrument.
Here are a few things to consider when purchasing an instrument:
1. LEVEL OF PLAYING
Are you a beginner? Are you just starting out? An instrument 'outfit' will work best for you because outfits include the instrument, a case, and some extra accessories. It is much better to get all these things in one package if possible instead of buying them separately.
Are you an intermediate or advanced player? You can purchase your items separately, according to your needs. Advanced players usually purchase instruments that are more expensive.
Don't forget, you always get what you pay for, on eBay and anywhere else.
2. WHAT SIZE DO I NEED?
Most instruments come in different sizes. Make sure to get the right size for you.
The best way to figure this out by yourself is to hold the instrument the right way, with correct posture, and to make sure you can reach all notes/keys comfortably. If you have to stretch too much to reach a certain note, the instrument is probably to large for you.
Sometimes it is best to ask a teacher for help in this area. We can also help if you contact us.
3. YOUR LEARNING METHOD
Will you teach yourself or will you take lessons from a teacher? If you plan to take a class you should consider spending a little bit more since most teachers will want their students to have the best instrument they can afford.
4. YOUR BUDGET
Consider everything else you have to purchase along with the instrument. Will you need books, accessories, extra strings, maintenance? Budget your money so you can cover everything you need.
5. IN FOR THE LONG RUN?
If you are serious about learning to play this instrument you can go ahead and spend a little more. This way, you will not have to upgrade in just a few months. Do not sacrifice quality for a few dollars.
Wishing you all the best,
