There is a new little one coming into the world.  The child of a friend, a sister, a co-worker, or your very own.  You want to celebrate this little one....and you have decided on a diaper cake.  How do you choose the right diaper cake?

The first thing you will want to consider is your budget.  How much are you looking to spend?  Be sure to factor in the cost of those diapers....they are expensive!!

The general rule of thumb should be....if it looks too good to be true, it probably is.  (This is what my mother always told me, anyway!).  Here are 5 tips for selecting the perfect cake for your baby celebration:

1)  Make sure the items in YOUR cake are NEW!!!  Some cake-makers put used or "gently used" items in their cake.  If their prices look TOO good...you may want to ask them if their items are brand new!!

2)  Make sure the diapers they are using are the types of diapers you want to be gifting.  Many parents (especially those who are having their FIRST child) really want the name-brand diapers.  Seasoned parents may be okay with generic/store brand diapers.  However, do you really want to gift someone  generic diapers...because even generic ones are pricey and it would be a terrible waste of money to give it and then have the parents not use the diapers because they aren't name-brand???  If you don't see the name of the brand being used...you may want to ask the seller what type they are using!!

3)  The spirit of the diaper cake should be that the diapers can be used once the cake is disassembled.  Make sure to ask the seller if they use tape or glue on the diapers when they are building it.  Tape and glue can cause diapers to rip when the cake is being taken apart.  It takes a little extra time to make a cake without using glue or tape on the diapers...but the end result is a cake that is truly functional after the shower, versus one that just looks like it is!!

4)  Make sure the products in the cake are the types of products you want to be gifting!  Name-brand products are the best.  Once again, you probably don't want to be gifting parents products that they aren't going to use.  Johnson's baby powder is always a better bet than the store-brand or dollar store brand.  If the parents choose to buy the generic brand....that is one thing.  But when we give a gift...we want to give the best, right??

5)  Is the cake you are buying customizable?  Will  the seller swap out the blue blanket for a green one?  Will they make a cake with Swaddler's instead of Huggies?  Are they willing to work with you on the overall look of the cake?  The gift that you give the new little one in your life is important.  The seller should want to work with you on the end result.  Sometimes they are selling a very specific cake and are unable to make changes, and that is okay.  BUT....most sellers should be able to work with you on the final result.  Afterall....every diaper cake should be as individual as the baby being celebrated!!!
