There are many different types and brands of barking collars or anti-bark products and deciding on one can be rather tricky, especially if you don't know what you're looking for.  This guide will teach you about the different qualities and types of barking collars and hopefully, help you decide on what one to buy.

1.  Shocking Collars:  These are the most popular type of anti-barking collars and are known to be the most effective depending on the model.  These collars are disputed to be harmful to pets, but name brands such as PetSafe assure you that your pet will not be harmed significantly.  There are a variety of models of shocking collars and a lot of them are useless.  The good ones sell anywhere from a deal at $10 to around retail in $100's.  I do not recommend trying to save a few dollars since often the cheaper ones are not effective since the shock induced in miniscule.  If this is the route you plan on going I'd recommend finding one in the $30's or $40's from a trusted brand; chances are these will give you the bark stopping you've been looking for.

2.  Ultrasonic Collars:  Ultrasonic collars, emit a high-decibel sound only animals can hear every time your or another dog barks.  A good thing about these is, even if it's not your dog barking, the barking still gets stopped.  You can also buy systems like this that sit on a table or mount on a wall, they work the same way.  However; the problems with these products are apparent with most buyers.  One, not all dogs respond to these systems.  Some dogs just have bad hearing while others don't have sensitive enough hearing to effective.  Another flaw with these systems is that often dogs cry from these systems.  I personally want my buddies to quiet but I don't want them to cry.  These, in my opinion, are best used for young, active dogs that won't stop barking.  Plus a lot of these systems are waterproof, making them ideal for taking along hunting.  When buying on eBay, I recommend going no higher than $35.  If you do you may be getting less than what you've paid for.

3.  Spraying Collars:  These are the newest and most expensive bark-stopping collars and don't have a lot of background behind them.  Invented by Citronella, these simply spray the dog with a mist of water.  I find that these work best when the dog's barking isn't very intense; since after a few sprays the dog becomes tolerant to the wetness.  If you're worried about overall safety, this is top of the line.  This collar is also known to be the most effective on dogs over a short period of time.  When it comes to prices, these don't run very cheap.  Sometimes, but rarely, you can pick these up for only $30.  On normal occasion though, you're looking at the mainstream price of about $50-$75.

Continuing, you should have an idea of what type you need.  After you've made your decision, start searching for your collar.  Many barking collar listings are "Buy It Now" and these list the detailed features of the collar for sale.  When buying, I look at these auctions first to find the collar I want.  However, I rarely purchase these collars.  I just search for the model of the collar I found in the Buy It Now listing and usually there's an auction that ends up selling for cheaper than the original Buy It Now price.  Remember though, as in any auction, you should always figure shipping into your total price.
