Guide to Buying American Girl Gowns or Dresses as Gifts

I. Guide to What Girls Like When Shopping For A Gown: Following is a list of tips based off my observations when girls of all ages visit my craft booth.
- Girls love to buy gowns. Usually they look for the most unique one with special trims or laces.
- They select gowns that are of their favorite colors.
- They like sparkly trims and laces
- They look for any type of matching accessories
- The most popular gown colors are pink, white or cream
- Girls get very upset when their parents tell them they don't need to have it. I have learned that girls buy my gowns as keepsakes from the moment or to remember the special person they are with
- I have sold to mothers, fathers, grandmothers, aunts and more
- Gift givers are looking for the most beautiful and original gown I have made. They don't care about my price as long as it is a one-of-a-kind and decorated with lots of pretty laces and trims
- Trims are very important, as well as the overall originality
- The type of lace for the skirt is also important to the gift giver
- Sometimes gift givers are leery of buying white gowns, but I reassure them that the white gowns can be washed. Also, little girls love white or cream gowns!!!
- Hairbows are also purchased to enhance the gift. If the gown comes with a hairbow or crown, the gift giver usually buys that item first.
- If someone is looking for a keepsake gift, they usually select something that looks more Victorian or vintage.
- Heirloom gift gowns are usually purchased with another fancy gown
- Originality is important
- Heirloom Gift Gowns are usually purchased by grandmothers who appreciate doll dresses.
- They love doll dresses
- They love fancy, fancy stuff
- They always want another dress and feel they could never have enough
- They like when their dolls are wearing a new gown or dress
- They are very happy when their guardian purchased a dress for them
- When their parents tell them they don't need it or it won't fit, Doll Dress Lovers are sad. They don't understand why they can't just put it on one of their stuffed animals, which they do anyway!!!
