Bakelite is the world’s first synthetic plastic. It was developed around 1909 by Dr. Leo Baekeland and is a highly sought after collectible. Although no longer extensively used in industry manufacturing, in the 1930’s, Bakelite was used to make telephones, early machine guns, appliance castings and jewelry. This beautiful retro plastic comes in a variety of colors some of which are listed, described and shown below:
Apple juice: Transparent golden yellow (1st pictured from left to right)
Black: True black
Butterscotch: Golden yellow with a hint of brown
Chartreuse: Light celery green (1st pictured from left to right)
Cherry: Intense bright red
Chocolate: Medium brown
Cranberry: Purplish red
Cream: Creamy White (pictured with black)
Creamed Corn: A Light creamy yellow
Creamed Spinach: Greens swirled with white or yellow (2nd pictured from left to right)
