I have been teaching myself to play, and do minor repairs on accordions for almost 2 years now. I am an engineer with a love of music, and I am tired of all the bad mouthing being given to the Chinese accordions. Having run through quite a few "vintage" Italian and German accordions, I found most vintage needed some work, up to being complete junk, with frozen stops, sticking keys / bass buttons, reeds not playing, etc. I have also been through a number of the imported Chinese accordions. I have seen a great improvement in the tuning, and find that the newer ones have a good volume with incredible bass. While it is true that you may find some reeds that are not perfectly in tune, I find that I - and some others I have spoken to - play with the musette stop anyway. Some of the older "vintage" accordions were far more out of tune. The latest accordion I have tried is a 96 bass and the lows are incredible. It had some notes that were a bit out, and I corrected them. My wife could not even tell the difference. I prefer this "cheap" accordion over my Hohner - which I sold. All in all, for the money, these accordions are playable. Make sure that the seller has a return policy so you can try it out.
An update..... I now have 3 improted accordions, a 120 bass with 4 /5 reeds, 96 bass with 3 /5 reeds and a 72 with 3 /4 reeds. I did go over the treble tuning, but found the bass was pretty well right on. They all have good volume, great compression, and sound great - far better value than the unknown of the "vintage" unless you can work on it.
