Parents, don't just take the doctor's prescription for ritalin as the only answer.  Try other methods first.  Join an online or offline support group.  There are alot on the web.  Listen to other stories first.  Find a developmental pediatirician and have your child evaluated.  Ask for opinions from close, trusted friends.  Ritalin needs to be your LAST resort - and wait as long as you possibly can.  That drug does harm to children's bodies.  Contact you local county as well as school district and find out what options are open to you.  Alot are paid by the county using the school taxes you pay - regardless of your income level. Sensory intergration does not mean autism.  SID is controllable and can be completely unnoticed once the child has gotten control and understands what triggers they need to be aware of.  If your preschooler has trouble sleeping, by a metronome.  Set it for 45-50 beats and it simulates a calm heartbeat.  It can usually keep a child asleep.  L-Theanine is a harmless amino acid that works in calming ADHD/SID children.

Please look at all your options before resorting to amphetimines.
