William Shaw George was born 1865 in Ohio. He was one of six children. At the age of 16 he went to work in the pottery industry. In the 1890's he moved to East Palestine, Ohio and became manager of the East Palestine Pottery Company, then owned by the Sebring Brothers. By 1904 he purchased controlling interest in the company and renamed it the W. S. George Pottery Company. He manufactured semi-porcelain dinnerware. Mr. George passed away in 1925 at the age of 60, but his company continued to be in operation until the 1960's. One of his plates is listed here, The Cherry Pattern, dating to the late 1940's or early 1950's. There is a simplicity of this pattern that speaks of that era. The colors are vibrant, bright, and cheerful. This item can be purchased at vintagenewtreasureshop an eBay shop.
