The wonderful, lush art makes Haviland truly worth the effort to shop & collect. This Charles Haviland Field Plate uses White Anemone & Pink Fireweed to great effect.
Charles Field Haviland was the nephew of David Haviland, founder of the Haviland China Dynasty. Charles Field was in business in Limoges, France from 1859 until 1881. He was direct competition to the other Haviland china companies. All the Haviland companies made wonderful porcelain products and the target market was America. Even during the American Civil War, Charles Field Haviland was still in demand and purchases still poured in.
The art used by Charles Field Haviland tends to be larger than the Haviland counterparts. Margaret Head worked on identifying many Charles Field Haviland pieces and they are referred to as Head numbers. Haviland tended to borrow and many of the same art patterns are used within the Haviland Dynasty. While a Charles Feild Haviland may be similar to a Haviland dynasty pattern, the Schleiger number will not be exact and might require a Head number.
There are a few Schleiger numbers for Charles Field Haviland in the Schleiger books (set of 6). But most of Haviland identification is a Schleiger number, although a few Head numbers exist. Many Charles Field Haviland are unidentified, but very beautiful and collectible.

Email is a wonderful thing, I am happy to answer questions about items in my shop! Unfortunately, due to time constraints and because china must be held to be identified and appraised, I refer people to the larger china shops with a staff for identification and appraisal.
