Charity Casino CHIPS in ONTARIO, Canada - ''The 1990's''
DURING the early part of the 1990's- operating throughout ONTARIO CANADA, much like a floating Craps Game, Casinos could not operate in one location for more than three days. This lack of permanence led to some pretty interesting workarounds. Let's face it, hauling tons of Casino equipment was both time consuming, and expensive. An interesting way around this, was to find a facility that occupied a LARGE piece of land, and legally had more than one street address. Many facilities, like where a hotel is connected to a shopping concourse fit this criteria. The Hotel has one address, the shopping concourse another. All the regulatory licencing people were concerned about was the address of the event. And by these 'creative' moves, a Casino operator could theoretically simply move the equipment from one room, to another down a corridor, or across the hall. Creative, but certainly not in keeping with the spirit of the regulations. With the opening of COMMERCIAL Casinos in Ontario mid 1996, the days of the "THREE DAY FLOATING CHARITY CASINO" came to an end. And, with that, the cessation of he issuance of what are arguably some of the nicest, and most eclectic mix, Casino Chips in the country. Most of the BIG known manufactures made chips for these CHARITY CASINOS. Some were the familiar CLAY type, other made of injection molded plastic, and other had die struck metal centres, contained in a plastic ring. Centre designs were hotstamped, graphic inserts, and stamped metal. Even moulds for chips long not seen in Vegas found their way into modern production for use in Ontario.
