Cha de bugre is a small tree which usually grows to about 20 to 40 feet and usually a foot to two feet in diameter and produces a fruit much like a coffee cherry.
Cha de bugre is native plant of Brazil and is mostly found in the Brazilian states of Minas Gerais, Bahia, and Goias. It is also found in tropical forest areas of Argentina and Paraguay. In Brazil, the tree is botanically classified as Cordia salicifolia and in Paraguay the same tree is classified as Cordia ecalyculata.
